Welcome

There are at present about one million listed buildings in England and their number is rising steadily. In London alone the figure stands at almost forty thousand.

There is a growing awareness of the value of architectural conservation. Many companies and individual owners now appreciate the rewards of restoring historic buildings and wish for greater accuracy and authenticity. The laws and procedures governing the treatment of listed buildings are multiplying and becoming more stringent. This has made the need for professional advice at all stages in the restoration process indispensable.

It is against this background that HBC has been formed by two architectural historians and consultants with long experience and a high reputation in the field of restoration and conservation.

HBC fills a critical gap, offering its clients a comprehensive advisory service on every aspect of restoration and conservation, from historical research and analysis to the recommendation of specialist contractors and negotiations with the historic buildings authorities.

Since its launch in 1989 HBC has been involved in the restoration and care of a wide range of historic buildings both in England and abroad, including corporate headquarters, residential developments, museums and institutions, town and country houses, hotels, shops, and restaurants, industrial buildings and schools.

HBC has also been active in the area of town planning and garden design, the documentation and care of fIne furniture and works of art, new design in conservation areas, and location work for cinema and television.

HBC is a resource for architects, developers and designers, as well as companies, individual owners, and others involved in the care of historic buildings. The company aims for historical accuracy and authenticity, balancing the highest standards of conservation with the individual needs of the client and the pressures and demands of the modern world.
